Love What You Do and Do What You Love by Karen Askenberger

To start this article off I want to use some words from one of the best songs I know, from one of the greatest musicians of all time - Avicii. He said “One day you´ll leave this world behind. So live a life you will remember”.

Love what you do and do what you love. Ever since I was a little girl my father has always encourage me to find the good in every situation I face in life, to be positive even when I face challenges and I’m so thankful for that.

My background is within customer services in various domains such as telecom and insurance so you can say that I’ve had my fair share of angry people yelling at me via the phone. I’ve handled everything from people being upset that their expected delivery isn’t on time, from teenagers being very upset because their Wi-Fi isn’t working to elderly people just upset because their old fashion phone isn’t working. But what’s important to remember in such cases is that they are not upset with you as a person, they are just upset with the situation. Therefore, make them laugh at it, and stay positive. For me, this is really important and the key to success.

I’ve also spent a big part of my youth in the world of sport. I started with football but then I found swimming and golf and for those who know how to play golf or are a competitive swimmer you know that it’s the smallest errors that can make a difference between a very good golf shot or a slow start that can make the difference between last in the race or first. So, make sure to stay persistence, be positive, and know that you are enough just the way you are. Surround yourself with people that want you to succeed, and remember to only look down on people if you are trying to help them up.

Later in my career I started working as a recruiter, again in various domains such as manufacturing, telecom, insurance and now I work as a recruitment specialist within the IT sector and I really love what I do, EVERY SINGLE DAY. Even if it sounds like a cliché, you got to find your own Why. Your purpose. For me it’s helping people to get their dream job, taking the step to maybe move halfway across the globe, or just to take a new chance in life!

So now I’m living my dream, I love what I do and I’m doing what I love.

I therefore want to share my three best tips on how to stay positive.

1. Music. I play some good tunes and here are some that always help for me:

I’m so excited – The Pointer Sisters

Shut up and Dance – Walk the Moon

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper ( these songs always works for me)

Sånt är Livet – Anita Lindblom

2. Think about what you actually have accomplished! It’s important to sometime also take the time to reflect and be grateful.

3. Laugh about whatever is on your mind, and think “What’s the worst thing that could happen”

I would love to come in contact with you if you have any thoughts about this or a similar topic.

Thank you for reading my article!
